Dr. Nelson has been an advocate for the continued safe operation of PG&E's Diablo Canyon Power Plant (DCPP) for over a decade. Dr. Nelson was one of the founders in 2013 of Californians for Green Nuclear Power, Inc., (CGNP) a nonprofit 501(c)(3) educational corporation. He currently serves in a volunteer capacity as CGNP's Legal Assistant and Government Liaison. CGNP is an adverse California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) Intervenor, advocating for the public interest in PG&E's controversial CPUC Application to voluntarily and prematurely retire DCPP in 2025. CGNP anticipates prevailing on merits in this proceeding once the case is before the State of California Appeals Court system. Dr. Nelson has served as a professor of courses in science and engineering at three colleges and a university.
