He works for the firm’s Power Sector Transformation program to uncover policy and technology solutions for a clean, reliable, and affordable U.S. electricity system. Mike also directs America’s Power Plan, a project to provide customized research, expertise, and resources to policymakers working to make the grid clean, affordable, and resilient. He has worked with stakeholders from a variety of states—including California, New York, Oregon, Hawaii, and Minnesota—to help improve the link between public policy goals and the motivations of electric utilities.
Mike has been the editor and predominant author for America’s Power Plans Trending Topics pieces, a monthly newsletter that helps policymakers and other stakeholders stay up to date on the most pertinent power sector issues today. Michael has authored reports covering a wide range of power sector topics, including distributed energy resource ownership and operation, mechanisms for adopting performance-based regulation, proper valuation metrics for utility compensation, and more.
Before joining Energy Innovation, Mike graduated cum laude from Arizona State University Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law, where he focused on energy and international law. He also has a B.A from Vanderbilt University in Philosophy and Asian Studies, with a minor in Economics.
